Probate
These vary from case to case However, as a guide are fees are likely to be in within the following ranges.
- For a simple estate with a single property, a small number of bank accounts and investments our fees would be between £1,500 - £2,500
- For more complex estates our fees would range between £2,500 - £3,500
- For larger or taxable estates our fees may well be in the region of £4,000 - £6,000
Additional Fees
In addition, there will be some disbursements which may become payable. The most likely disbursements are:
- Probate court fee: £273.00 (plus £1.50 per each copy required)
- Online ID verification: £6.25 plus £1.25 VAT (per beneficiary)
- Office Copy entries: £3.00 plus £0.60 VAT
- Bankruptcy Search fee: £2.00 plus £0.40 VAT (per beneficiary)
Other disbursements will be advised as required for example accountants fees, Statutory Advertisement fees to protect your position from unknown creditors etc and will be agreed with you on a case by case basis.
Timescale
In cases where there is no need to submit a full IHT Return we aim to complete matters we aim to complete the administration of the cash element of the estate in 3 to 6 months
In cases where there is a need to submit a full IHT Return we aim to complete the administration of the cash element of the estate in 4 to 8 months. It can take longer than this to obtain a formal Clearance letter from HMRC (Inheritance Tax). These timing can vary depending on the complexity of the estate, valuations that are required and claims for relief that need consideration by HMRC.
In cases where there is a property to sell the administration can take longer and is governed by how quickly a suitable buyer for the property can be found and how quickly the conveyancing transaction proceeds.
